BURLEY - A standing-room-only crowd poured into the Minidoka County Courthouse this morning to watch as Minidoka County's new sheriff was sworn into office.
Sheriff Eric Snarr was sworn into office by Commissioner Bob Moore. Afterward, Snarr gave the oath of office to new Chief Deputy Dave Pinther.
Snarr, 45, was a sheriff's detective and has worked for the sheriff’s office for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and went to the University of Idaho, where he earned a law enforcement degree.
He will serve as the sheriff until the next mid-term election in 2014. He will take his oath of office at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25.
He will replace former Sheriff Kevin Halverson, who resigned July 1 after being charged with misuse of public funds for allegedly using a county gas card for personal use.
