RUPERT - Former Minidoka County sheriff Kevin Halverson pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to a felony charge of misuse of public funds by a public officer.

He will be sentenced in Minidoka County 5th District Court at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 13.

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden issued a prepared statement Tuesday saying Halverson acknowledged misusing a Minidoka County gas card to buy fuel for personal reasons. As part of his plea agreement, Halverson resigned and he may be disqualified from holding a public office in the future.

Prosecutors said Halverson used the county credit cards to buy less than $300 worth of gas for another female county employee between November 2012 and January 2013.
