TWIN FALLS — Police are holding a Caldwell man in connection to reports of a child predator trying to lure children near Twin Falls schools.

Chad L. McLean, 41, was arrested early Sunday by police in Caldwell in an unrelated case. Police there realized McLean fit the description of a man driving a silver car near schools in Twin Falls last week.

Twin Falls detectives drove to Caldwell and found sufficient evidence to arrest McLean in connection with the schools incident, police said in a statement Sunday.

McLean faces three counts of attempted sexual abuse of a minor child under the age of 16. He is being jailed in Canyon County on a $500,000 bond for the Twin Falls charges, awaiting extradition.

“We are proud of the communication that took place in this investigation both within our organization as well as with external law enforcement partners,” Lt. Terry Thueson said. “We are very appreciative of the Caldwell Police Department and their awareness of events outside their own jurisdiction. Their outstanding police work helped our detective close out a significant case with an arrest that will make our community a safer place to live.”

Twin Falls police received two separate reports Monday of a man encouraging young girls to get into his car, the latest in a string of reports about suspicious characters approaching children near Twin Falls schools.

It’s unclear if McLean is suspected in the prior cases.

Both reports Monday referenced a man in a gray four-door car with Idaho license plates near Harrison Elementary School.

The first incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. at Harrison Street and Altair Drive. A white man in his 30s or 40s who was wearing sunglasses started talking with a girl.

The second incident happened only moments later, about 5:45 p.m. A different girl was walking in the area of Wirsching Avenue and Polk Street. She reported a gray car with tinted windows pull up next to her and a man said he could give her a ride home.

Police released photos of the car to the public late last week hoping they could lead to tips.
