RUPERT — A Rupert man charged in May after police said he sexually abused girls ages 11 and 13, has taken a plea deal offered by the Minidoka County Prosecutor’s Office.

Daniel Leonard Bush, 58, was charged with felony sexual abuse of a minor under age 16, lewd conduct with a child under 16, battery with intent to commit a serious felony and misdemeanor criminal solicitation to commit a crime.

He agrees to plead guilty to an amended felony charge of injury to a child and the remaining charges will be dropped by the Minidoka County Prosecutor’s Office. Bush will be sentenced to a two-year-fixed jail term with three years of indeterminate time.

Police began investigating when a neighbor reported his son told him the two girls confided in him that Bush was committing sex crimes against them, court records said. One of the girls told the boy that Bush was drunk and attempted to force her into a bedroom to have sex. When the boy was questioned by police. he said the older girl had told his sister that Bush took her upstairs and forced her to perform oral sex around Christmastime 2015.

The girl told police there had been numerous incidents. One of the girls also told police that Bush yells at them for no reason when he’s drunk and calls them mean names.

A sentencing hearing is set for March 16 in Minidoka County District Court.
