Four Twin Falls Chapter members of Idaho Writer’s League, Bill Strange, Loy Ann Bell, Loraine Fisher and Linda Helms, attended the yearly IWL conference Sept. 22-23 in Pocatello. Workshops on writing, publishing, and marketing manuscripts were held during the event.

The Idaho Writer’s League sponsors writing contests for members each year. Twin Falls Chapter’s winning entries were written by Ruth Simerly, Hagerman; Vaughn Phelps, Twin Falls; and Bill Strange, Loy Ann Bell, Win Lenore Mobley and Linda Helms, all of Jerome. Vaughn Phelps won the Vardis Fisher Award for Humor and was also named Writer of the Year. A memorial for Dr. Richard Hagerman, a longtime IWL Twin Falls Chapter member from Wendell, was read during the conference.

Some of the winning entries will be published later this year in an anthology, which will be available for purchase from IWL members.

The 2018 IWL state officers are President Kathleen Clayton, Sandpoint Chapter; First Vice President Cynthia Deatherage, Pocatello Chapter; Second Vice President Terri Picone, Palouse (Moscow) Chapter; Treasurer Emily Moore, Coeur d’Alene Chapter; and Secretary Linda Helms, Twin Falls Chapter. Next year’s conference will be held in September in Moscow.
