The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Idaho announces Benita Remaley, a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Twin Falls, as a local winner of this year’s Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.
She was selected from entries submitted to VFW posts across the state of Idaho. VFW Little Wood River Post 3001 and its auxiliary in Jerome sponsored Remaley, who won at the post, district, and state level for K-5 grades.
She will now compete for the VFW Teacher of the Year award at the national level. Each year, three national recipients receive a $1,000 donation to their individual professional development account, a $1,000 grant to their school and an all-expense-paid trip to attend the VFW National Convention in July to receive their national award. During the nationwide competition, the VFW recognizes more than 1,000 teachers at various levels, presenting hundreds of thousands of dollars in awards.
Post 3001 and its auxiliary recognized Remaley at their annual Christmas Party and Awards Dinner on Dec. 19.
