The Kroger Co., which owns Smith’s Food & Drug and Fred Meyer, has announced its second annual health and wellness campaign, One Shot, One Meal, in partnership with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization.

For each flu shot administered at a Smith’s pharmacy until April 1, 2018, Smith’s Food & Drug will donate one meal to Idaho Food Bank through the Feeding America network, as part of Smith’s new initiative Zero Hunger Zero Waste. “We are proud to bring health and wellness through an effort to eliminate hunger in our shared communities,” said Aubriana Martindale, Division Corporate Affairs Manager for Smith’s.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 310,000 individuals were hospitalized last year for flu-related illnesses. The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older. Flu shots can reduce the risk of more serious symptoms and outcomes, including flu-related hospitalizations.
