SUN VALLEY — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced Community School seniors Sofia Lodato and Lucy More as National Merit Scholarship Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

According to a press release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Commended Students are recognized for the exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test used for program entry.

Sofia and Lucy are among about 34,000 Commended Students in the 63rd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program throughout the nation who are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition based on their results in the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Head of School Ben Pettit said, “I am extremely proud of Sofia and Lucy for being named National Merit Scholarship Commended Students. More importantly, I want to thank them both for their respective leadership, dedication in the classroom, remarkable drive, insatiable curiosity, and passion for the arts, all of which make them exceptional students.
