BURLEY — David Del Toro, James Parke, Isaac Sheffer, Will Cox and Josh Reed — Burley Boy Scouts of America Pack 12 — received Arrow of Light awards Jan. 9.
The award is the highest recognition given to a Cub Scout. Each boy also earned the Religious Knot in recognition of his faith in and service to God.
The Arrow of Light badge was presented to each Cub by his father. In turn, each boy gave his mother a miniature Arrow of Light pin to show his appreciation for the help and encouragement she provided.
David Del Toro is the son of Letty and Fernando Del Toro; James Parke is the son of Jim and JoAnn Parke; Isaac Sheffer is the son of Jordan and Becky Sheffer; Will Cox is the son of Jeremy and Jill Cox; and Josh Reed is the son of Trever and Sara Reed.
Archer Brent McMillan shot an arrow to recognize the Cub Scouts’ achievements and presented the arrow to the boys as a reminder of the values they learned and practiced as a Cub Scout.
An Arrow of Light plaque was presented by the pack committee to honor each Cub for his achievements.
The plaque was decorated with various arrangements of adventure awards, colored beads and feathers signifying numerous achievements earned during three years as a Cub Scout.
All five boys, with their families, crossed over “The Bridge” — signifying passage into the Boy Scout program. Boy Scout leaders greeted each family on the other side of the bridge and welcomed each new Boy Scout family into Troop 12.
Jack and Laura Hill are the Webelos leaders in Pack 12. Cubmaster Chris Okelberry and Den Chief Matt Haymore led the recognition ceremony.
