FILER — A crash Sunday night on U.S. 93 blocked both lanes of traffic for hours and resulted in the death of one person.
Idaho State Police reported that around 7:13 p.m., the agency responded to a two-vehicle crash at U.S. 93 and 3800 North, near Filer.
Cassidee Kippes, 23, of Buhl had been westbound on 3800 North in a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup. Idaho State Police say she failed to yield to a stop sign and entered the highway, where her pickup was struck by a semi driven by George Acosta, 69, of Sacramento, Calif. Acosta’s northbound International Semi was pulling one trailer and hit Kippes’ pickup on the driver’s side.
The semi then rolled and caught on fire. Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of U.S. 93.
ISP reported Kippes was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Her next of kin has been notified.
Acosta was wearing a seat belt and was taken by ambulance to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, where he was treated and released.
All lanes were reported open at 7 a.m. Monday.
