Holesinky release Blackout

Holesinsky Vineyard and Winery has released ‘Blackout’, a vintage 2015 red wine to commemorate a total eclipse that will be going over Idaho.

BUHL — Blackout, a wine from Holesinsky Vineyard and Winery in Buhl, will be featured on the "Today Show" Thursday morning in a roundup of some of the best eclipse-themed items from around the country, winery manager Eric Smallwood said.

NBC contacted Smallwood this week and he overnighted five bottles to NBC studios to be featured in the segment.

The segment is set to air about 8:50 a.m., he said.

"We're pretty hometown proud," he said.

Blackout is a reserve blend that is 80 percent Syrah and 20 percent Cabernet Franc.

The winery only made about 112 cases or 1,344 bottles total and was already down to 104 cases in late July.

Smallwood said the wine is truly an Idaho product. The grapes were grown in Buhl and Hagerman. The graphic design was made by an artist from Boise and the screen printing was done in Garden City.

Blackout can be purchased at Rudy’s — A Cook’s Paradise in Twin Falls or at Rail Nine in Filer.

Smallwood said the wine is “selling like crazy” at Rudy’s and delivered another shipment a few days after the first.

The back of the bottle of wine features a picture Idaho with a dotted line showing the eclipse’s path in the state.

Blackout costs $29.99 at Rudy’s. It is also available by the case only at Holesinsky Vineyard and Winery.
