HANSEN — With over 20 inches of skiable snow available, the High Desert Nordic Association will hold its annual Free Ski Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Magic Mountain Lodge, 28 miles south of Hansen. Free instruction and gear will be provided for people to try out cross-country skiing.
HDNA President Irene Nautch said in a statement, “Volunteers will help fit boots, skis and poles — then give an introductory lesson for beginners, plus time to practice. All ages and abilities will be welcome.” Contact Nautch at 208-339-0859 if you’d like to volunteer for a couple of hours.
The High Desert Nordic Association’s regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Idaho Joe’s Restaurant, 598 Blue Lakes Blvd. N., Twin Falls. Dr. Blake Pedersen — who has skiing, hiking and Ironman experience — will present an outdoor first-aid and safety program. An informal gathering will begin at 6 pm. The public is welcome to attend.
The annual Moonlight Ski and potluck dinner will be on Jan. 27.
The Blaine County Recreation District will also hold a Free Ski Day on their Nordic trails Sunday. Also, their annual Ski the Rails Tour down the Wood River Trail is scheduled for Feb. 10. More information: go to bcrd.org.
If you’ve renewed your HDNA membership this season, you can go north and ski free for one day of your choice on Blaine County Recreation District’s world-class groomed trails.
