OAKLEY — Walk away happy after seeing “Walking Happy” performed at 7:30 p.m. March 8, 9, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 22, 23 and 24 on the Howell’s Opera House stage, 160 Blaine Ave., Oakley — with a matinee at 2 p.m. March 10.
“Walking Happy” has music by Jimmy Van Heusen and lyrics by Sammy Cahn. It was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Set in an 1880s industrial town in Lancashire, England, the show concerns a boot shop owner surrounded by his three daughters who want to get married. However, Hobson is keeping his eldest daughter Maggie single since she is so helpful around the shop. Trouble ensues when Maggie decides to open her own shop and marry one of Hobson’s workers, Will Mossop.
This Oakley Valley Arts Council production has Deborah Jones directing, assisted by Mike Harris. Cast members include: Wendell Wells as Henry Hobson; Elli Searle as Maggie Hobson; Cali Knowles as Alice Hobson; Tananda Call as Vickie Hobson; Josh Searle as Will Mossop.
“Walking Happy” tickets are $10 — available to 2018 OVAC members Feb. 8 and non-members Feb. 15. Reservations and season passes are available by calling 208-677-ARTS, ext. 2787. Season passes are available during this production for $24, then not available for the remainder of the year.
