TWIN FALLS • Tickets are now available for Paco Pena’s show ‘Flamenco Vivo!,’ the fifth performance of Arts on Tour’s 2012-13 season.
It’s set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the College of Southern Idaho’s Fine Arts Auditorium. Tickets are $28 for adults and $20 for students in high school and younger.
As guitarist, composer, dramatist and producer, Paco Pena explores the Spanish art form of flamenco.
Born in the Andalucian city of Cordoba, Pena began learning guitar at age 6 and made his first professional appearance at 12. In the late 1960s, he left Spain for London, where his recitals of flamenco music captured attention. Since 1970, Pena has performed regularly with his own company.
In 1995, The New York Times wrote: “Mr. Pena is a virtuoso, capable of dazzling an audience beyond the frets of mortal man. He combines rapid-fire flourishes with a colorist’s sense of shading; this listener cannot recall hearing any guitarist with a more assured mastery of his instrument.”
Readers of America’s Guitar magazine judged Pena the Best Flamenco Guitarist of the Year for five consecutive years.
In his latest show, ‘Flamenco Vivo!,’ Pena and his dancers, singers and musicians bring to life the rhythms, colors and sounds of Andalucia. Expect improvisation and virtuoso flamenco technique.
