BOISE (AP) — Auditors say that Idaho was overpaid $3.1 million and should repay the money given to them by a federal agency to cover children on government health insurance.
The Idaho Statesman reports that an audit by the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suggests that Idaho "overstated" the number of children who were eligible for funds from a multibillion-dollar "bonus" program approved in 2009.
State officials said they included children categorized as blind and disabled because they weren't explicitly excluded and called the auditors' interpretation of the program parameters as erroneous.
Idaho also took issue with the dollar amount cited by federal auditors, noting that it only got a total of $3.8 million between 2010 and 2013.
No money has been returned.
