TWIN FALLS — Two local bicycle enthusiasts have brought their love of cycling to downtown Twin Falls.
Bull Moose Bicycles opened Monday at 160 Main Ave. N. Owners Nate Rioux and Chris Cawthra are offering bicycle repair and tuneup services, with hopes of expanding the business to host workshops and cycling events.
While they will work to get any bike back on the road, their favorite part is making old things look new again.
“We focus on repairs,” Cawthra said. “We really like fixing up old bikes and getting ‘em running properly.”
The shop itself has a rustic appeal, featuring repurposed barn wood and metal, and an indoor wash basin at the back. Bull Moose Bicycles is named after the “bullmoose” vintage mountain bike handlebar.
The Main Avenue business is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
A full tuneup costs $60 and includes a wash and lube. A once-over safety check is $35 and a simple wash-and-lube is $20. Certain mountain bikes can get a deluxe tuneup for $95.
The shop also carries a few retail commuter bikes, accessories and old and used parts. A computer against one wall is available for people who want help shopping for a bicycle online.
“Bike shops traditionally shy away from that because they have a huge selection of bicycles,” Rioux said.
But Bull Moose Bicycles aims to do more repairs and service than retail.
“We don’t want people to feel left out for any reason,” Cawthra said.
In fact, they invite people to come “hang out” anytime. A wooden counter is set up with stools to give the place a casual, bar-like atmosphere.
Rioux, of Filer, said he has seen a growing interest in cycling in the area. He’d like to promote the recreational activity and teach people about bicycle safety and maintenance.
